Our Answers about Common Questions to Ask a Paid Preparer

  1.  How do you charge your fee and how much will it cost?  Basic returns for individual income taxes are a flat rate depending on the type of income.  For example, a return for a single person with 1 W-2 will be $69.  Returns with a business form or needing paperwork to be sorted will be charged on an hourly basis.  Fees are collected at the time of the return preparation for basic returns.  One half of the estimated fee for other tax returns will be collected at the time we both agree we will prepare your tax return.  The full amount of our fee must be paid when we deliver you your final tax return.
  2. How long have you been preparing income tax returns?  Susan has been preparing tax returns for over 30 years.
  3. Are you open and available year-round?  Yes.  With the convenience of virtual options, we can be reached year-round even if the physical office has reduced summer hours.
  4. If the tax payer is contacted by IRS or a state regarding their return will you be able to assist them for returns you have prepared?  Definitely.  The virtual options make keeping track of us easier.
  5. Will you provide a copy of the completed tax return and original documents provided? Yes, we will provide a paper copy, load an electronic copy to the secure site for the tax payer to download or both at no extra charge.
  6. Will you be signing the tax return as a preparer?  And can you show proof of your PTIN?  Yes and yes.
  7. Are you affiliated with a professional organization?  Yes, Susan is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
  8. Do you have a professional license or credentials? Yes, Susan has a current license from the Missouri State Board of Accountancy which is displayed in the office.
  9. How do you learn about new tax laws?  In order to maintain her license with Missouri, Susan must complete 120 hours of approved continuing education with 6 hours of this in the area of ethics.  She attends webinars by national presenters to learn about changes in tax laws and how they can be used to benefit the clients.
